Azerbaijani general killed in armed clashes on border with Armenia

BAKU, July 14. /TASS/. Azerbaijani Army Major-General Polad Gashimov and Colonel Ilgar Mirzoyev were killed in armed clashes on the border between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Azerbaijan’s APA news agency reported on Tuesday, citing Deputy Defense Minister Kerim Veliyev.

"Major-General Polad Gashimov and colonel Ilgar Mirzoyev died heroically in the morning battles," the news agency quoted the deputy defense minister as saying.

Azerbaijan’s state news agency AzerTAc also confirmed this information.

Four Killed In Azerbaijan-Armenia Border Clashes

BAKU, July 14 (NNN-XINHUA) – Four Azerbaijani soldiers were killed, in a fresh wave of clashes on the Azerbaijan-Armenia border.

Three soldiers were killed on Sunday and one on Monday, in artillery fire near the northern Tavush region, Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defence said.

According to the Armenian Defence Ministry, at least two Armenian police officers were wounded in the clashes.

The two countries have traded accusations, over which side started the fighting and violated the ceasefire.

Both countries said the situation is under their control.

NAM leaders unite in the fight against COVID-19

BAKU, May 5 (NNN-AZERTAC) — The heads of member countries of the Non Aligned Movement (NAM) came together via a video conference today to address the ongoing global COVID-19 crisis.

The summit, initiated by current NAM chairman Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev, took off here today as the leaders joined the meet under the body’s Contact Group format for the meet themed “United against COVID-19”.

Ilham Aliyev made the opening speech at the Summit followed by an address from the President of the United Nations General Assembly Tijjani Muhammad-Bande.

NAM to hold online Contact Group summit to focus on fight against Covid-19

BAKU, April 26 (NNN-BERNAMA-AZERTAC) — On the initiative of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, who is the chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), a Summit of the NAM’s Contact Group will be held through videoconference on May 4.

The Summit entitled “We stand together against COVID-19” will focus on the fight against coronavirus pandemic, Assistant to the President, Head of the Department for Foreign Policy Affairs of Azerbaijan’s Presidential Administration Hikmat Hajiyev told Azerbaijan State News Agency (AZERTAC).

Azerbaijan closes border with Iran over coronavirus concerns

01 Mar 2020; MEMO: Azerbaijan said on Saturday it had closed its border with Iran for two weeks to prevent the spread of coronavirus, after the death toll in Iran rose to 43 yesterday, the highest number outside of China.

Iran is at the epicentre of the outbreak in the Middle East, with several countries in the region reporting cases stemming from Iran.

Armenian, Azerbaijani top diplomats to meet again for talks on Karabakh in early 2020

BAKU, December 5. /TASS/: The foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia, Elmar Mammadyarov and Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, agreed to hold their next meeting on the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement early next year, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry’s press service said on Thursday.

The two top diplomats met in Bratislava on the sidelines of the OSCE Ministerial Conference in the Slovak capital.

"The ministers agreed to continue the negotiations and to hold another meeting early next year," the ministry said in a statement.

NAM A Driving Force Of Multilateral Cooperation — Azerbaijan Foreign Minister

BAKU, (AZERBAIJAN), Oct 25 (NNN-Bernama) — Multilateralism is more important than ever, and it is the responsibility of the Non-Alignment Movement (NAM) to protect this asset, said Azerbaijan Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov.

Mammadyarov said NAM, as the second-largest international political organisation after the United Nations, is definitely one of the main driving forces of multilateral cooperation.

18th Non-Aligned Movement Summit Opens In Azerbaijan

BAKU, Oct 25 (NNN-Bernama) — The 18th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit opened Friday in this capital city of Azerbaijan, gathering the leaders of more than 120 member countries at a time when the world faces new challenges including a trade war.

At this summit, Azerbaijan, helmed by President Ilham Aliyev, takes over the chairmanship of NAM for the next three years from Venezuela.

Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad is among more than 20 top leaders attending the two-day summit being held at the Baku Congress Centre.

NAM senior officials begin meeting in Baku

BAKU (AZERBAIJAN), Oct 22 (Bernama) — Senior Officials from the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) began their two-day meeting here on Monday, deliberating on current developments in the international sphere and issues related to NAM member countries.

The Preparatory Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) and the Preparatory Ministerial Meeting on October 23-24 will preced the 18th Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the NAM that will be held here on Oct 25-26.
