India: Himachal facing debt burden of over Rs 49,000 crore: CM

Shimla, Aug 31 (PTI) Himachal Pradesh is facing a debt burden of Rs 49,096 crore, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur informed the state Assembly on Saturday.

Replying to questions by Jagat Singh Negi, Rajinder Rana and Ramesh Chand Dhawala, the CM stated that the state's debt burden was Rs 46, 385 crore in 2017.

India: Minor girl abducted, killed in HP's Kullu

Shimla, Jul 18 (PTI) A minor girl who was kidnapped over two weeks ago was found dead in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district on Thursday and a man she was friends with has been arrested in this connection, police said.

Sonu Ram, 21 and of Nashala village, has been arrested for her abduction and killing, Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh said.

India: Death toll in Himachal building collapse climbs to 13

Shimla, Jul 15 (PTI) Five more bodies were retrieved on Monday from the debris of a building collapse in Himachal Pradesh' Solan district, taking the death toll to 13, officials said.

Twenty-eight people were injured after the four-storey building, which housed a restaurant, collapsed on the Nahan-Kumarhatti Road on Sunday evening following heavy rains, they said.

The bodies of 12 Army personnel and a civilian were extricated from the debris, the officials said.

India: Five-yr-old allegedly raped in HP

Hamirpur (HP), Jun 7 (PTI) A shopkeeper was arrested for allegedly raping a five-year-old Nepalese girl in Himachal Pradesh's Hamirpur district, the police said Friday.

The victim, along with her parents, used to live at a rented room adjacent to a shop run by the accused, they said. He lured the girl with chocolates and then committed the crime.

The matter came to light after she complained of stomach ache, following which her mother filed a police complaint, Hamirpur Deputy Superintendent of Police Hitesh Lakhanpal said.

India: Eight-member SIT formed to probe Shimla rape case

Shimla, Apr 30 (PTI) The Himachal Pradesh police has formed an eight-member SIT to investigate the rape of a 19-year-old woman in a moving car in Shimla on Sunday night, an official official said.

The Special Investigation Team will be headed by Additional Superintendent of Police Parveer Thakur, according to an order issued by DGP Sitaram Mardi this evening.

The order came as the opposition Congress cornered the Jai Ram Thakur government on the law and order situation following the incident.

India: 19-year-old woman raped in moving car in Shimla

Shimla, Apr 29 (PTI) A 19-year-old woman was allegedly raped in a moving car here, police said Monday.

The woman lodged a complaint through Gudiya helpline 1515 and alleged that she was raped by a person in the moving car at around 10 pm on Sunday, Deputy Superintendent of Police Pramod Shukla said.

In the complaint, the woman stated that the incident took place when she was coming from Mall road on foot towards an area falling under the Dhalli police station limits, Shukla said.

India: HP Power Minister Anil Sharma resigned from BJP gov

Shimla, Apr 12; PTI/GANASHAKTI: Himachal Pradesh Power Minister Anil Sharma resigned from the BJP government on Friday, days after the Congress fielded his son Aashray Sharma as its candidate from the Mandi Lok Sabha constituency.

Anil Sharma has been under pressure from the Bharatiya Janata Party after his father, former Union minister Sukh Ram, quit the saffron party and joined the Congress along with Aashray Sharma last month.

India: Railway stations on Shimla-Kalka route get free Wi-Fi

Shimla, Mar 6 (PTI) All major railways station on the Shimla-Kalka heritage route will get free Wi-Fi, officials said on Wednesday.

Himachal Pradesh chief minister Jai Ram Thakur launched the free Wi-Fi facility along with the 'hop-on hop-off' service which will let passengers get down at any station and board another incoming train without purchasing new tickets.

This would help in boosting tourism on wayside stations like Barog, Solan, Shogi and so on, Thakur said.
